Despite Heroic Backstory, Character Remains Unknown
“His combat technique is very advanced. It appears simple and he only uses low level spells. To the untrained eye, it might look like he has very little experience at all."
Local adventurer, Tarn Fistmaul, remains unknown to those in the realm of Regalfield, despite having quite an impressive list of accomplishments in his backstory. Fistmaul has only been in the realm a few days, arriving from a town “far away” that he reports he saved from both an evil necromancer and a dragon, despite arriving with only a starter’s adventuring kit. “Most of my equipment was destroyed during the Tarrasque battle,” Fistmaul tells The Dungeon Tribune. “Of course, the vorpal sword I left in the future when I was time-travelling, but the Ring of Wishes I used up in the Elemental Plane of Fire and the +5 Plate Armor was used to power the Spelljammer I owned.” When asked why none of his previous exploits could be verified, the adventurer replied that the secret organization he ran “must have covered it up” when he left. We were unable to verify the existence of any secret organization.
“His combat technique is very advanced,” says fellow adventurer Kaern Hoofmeat. “It appears simple and he only uses low level spells. To the untrained eye, it might look like he has very little experience at all.” “My favorite tactic is when he pretends to be afraid, or even dead, after being hit one time. It throws the enemy off it’s strategy, but also gives us less powerful adventurers a chance to save a great hero,” recent Temple of Oltret graduate cleric, Louvet Freedawn elaborated. “We’re really lucky he decided to join our group. Most adventurers who have a backstory as great as his wouldn’t accompany some novices into a goblin lair.”
Fistmaul says he’s doing it for the love of teaching, and because he gave all his gold to orphans and needs money. “Someone like me, who’s saved the world countless times, doesn’t really need to join a party, I could do it myself. But I like to give back to the community. It’s almost like I learn more from them than they do from me. Who is teaching who here?” Thremmey Awlsgodd is one such beneficiary. “Learning to load a crossbow is something so easy, there is no way Tarn didn’t know how to do it. But he’s so good, he was able to pretend to be clueless and knew that I would benefit from teaching him.”
“I’ve never heard of him,” says random beggar Mutt Lowstoop. “And I’ve been making a living groveling in these parts for over a decade. I came here looking for honest work while my wife is in nursing school, and back home I never missed day of work. I just need 2 gold and 73 silver to get my horse fixed so I can go pick her up from the college. Is there anything you can spare? If you give me…” (Editor’s note: this interviewee was paid 2 gold and 73 silver for his contribution to the story.) “So yeah, if this guy was famous, I think I would have heard of him.”
