Four Strangers Decide to Implicitly Trust Each Other
“The most amazing part of it to me, is that we all happened to have interesting backstories"
The Rusty Serpent Inn in the Lower Artisan District of Lakegreave witnessed the birth of a new adventuring group comprised of 4 adventurers who just happened to be around the same skill level. The group has chosen to be known as the Copper Ring, a name that they seemed to be able to come up with, and have t-shirts printed for, as if they had already thought about it before they even met. “It was pretty fortuitous that we all just happened to be in the same inn when that mysterious stranger arrived,” says founding member Jerald Greatarms. “And he happened to have a mission that only we could accomplish.”
The meeting wasn’t completely left to chance, however. According to the mysterious stranger who couldn’t tell us his name (to protect us from retribution from a dire threat, but was wearing an inside out royal tabard and a hat barely covering a crown), it is not uncommon. “I had no idea these particular adventurers would be in the inn that evening, or that they would instantly trust me and each other,” says the stranger who told us not to call him “His Royal Highness” even though he was wearing a button that said “Ask Me About My Kingdom.” “But I can always count on a group of powerful and unemployed heroes, who are willing to help a woman described as a princess, but totally isn’t, being there on a random weeknight.” The mysterious stranger did present his ring to the staff of The Dungeon Tribune for them to kiss.
Fellow member of the Copper Ring, Ursel Proudhilt, points out that the similarities do not end there. “The most amazing part of it to me, is that we all happened to have interesting backstories,” notes Proudhilt. “What are the odds that all of us had parents who disappeared mysteriously?” Some in attendance were content to call the situation a fortunate coincidence. “Really, it’s not that odd that 4 strangers, who combined have an effective class synergy and have prepared spells specifically for such a composition, would happen to meet when needed the most,” says Innkeeper Durnad Flagonfill.
Others who witnessed the birth of the group claim it must be divine will. “I mean, a group of strangers all sitting around the same table, who claim to be chaotic good? They must have been brought here by Our Lady of Justified Means. They were even carrying all 500 pounds of gear with them at the time.” Still others believe something is amiss given the circumstances. “It was very odd,” says bar wench Ezel Trayarm. “They all introduced themselves by describing what they look like.”
