Gods Admit They Have No Idea How Magic Works
“It’s one of those things you expect you’ll get around to learning. But when you’re eternal, time just gets away from you sometimes."
Local gods of the Masilor Pantheon admitted earlier today in a question and answer session that they haven’t the slightest idea how magic works. Among those in attendance were reporters and clergy from The Dungeon Tribune. “It was quite the announcement,” says beat cleric Cyrohn Weathervane. “I don’t think any of us were expecting that kind of bombshell when we checked into the Switchfield Convention Center earlier that day.”
The revelation brought the entire session to a halt, and many are still contemplating the implications. “I think we can accept that some lower-level deities and demigods wouldn’t know anything about arcane magic,” says attendee and chronicler Servern Allvest. “But the question was about a holy spell.”
The stunning answer came from deity of life, agriculture, linens, and water fowl, who is known to us as Grevelos The Majestic, after being asked a question regarding temporary hit points. “It’s one of those things you expect you’ll get around to learning,” says Grevelos. “But when you’re eternal, time just gets away from you sometimes. Besides, it’s not like we can do anything about it.”
Equally shocking to many in attendance was the answer to the follow-up question regarding the issuance of magic power to followers. “Yeah, we don’t do that,” Arbilaud the Persistent informed the audience. “I’m glad people praise me for the miracles they’re able to perform with their magic, but I can’t really claim credit.”
The tenet that spellcasting is a gift from the gods is a long held belief by many in the realm, and confirmation that it isn’t true is causing many to question their faith. “I guess I can stop worshipping Suriwel (deity of magic, the moon, coffee, and keys) now,” says Archmage Giel Alton. “I revered her for her knowledge of the magical flow and connection to the ley lines. But she just admitted to everyone that she’s not sure why cantrips exist, so maybe that was all just a show.”
For further insight, and to record their comments, we reached out to the Elder Gods, those that created the Pantheon. We were then referred to the First Gods, and then to the Pre-Gods, and eventually back to the Pantheon.
