Local Adventurer Has a Dark Secret, Hasn’t Decided What it is Yet
"It took me awhile to figure out what the secret was, but it was my first mysterious backstory that tortured my soul, and it takes time to develop a feel for it."
The newest member of adventuring group “Legion of the Deep” and overall shadowy figure, Zevalda Crowraven, has shown obvious signs of having a dark secret that haunts their waking hours, but there are no indications of what it might be. Typically, adventurers with tragic or mysterious backstories will hint at what it might be, creating intrigue within the adventuring community. But Crowraven hasn’t shown any distinct characteristics or behaviors, leaving many to believe that they haven’t decided what that secret is. “They have all the trappings of having a dark secret: They don’t talk about their past or any of their goals,” says fellow adventurer Keargh Quembers. “But it’s like there is too much of a mystery. Seems like they’ve written themselves into a corner.”
Fellow Legion member Drell Surjic empathizes with Crowraven’s predicament as he has had a similar situation when he first joined the Legion. “I wanted to have a dark and mysterious past when I first joined as well. I think many of us go through a period where we experiment with backstories,” Surjic tells The Dungeon Tribune. “It took me awhile to figure out what the secret was, but it was my first mysterious backstory that tortured my soul, and it takes time to develop a feel for it. I think Zev just needs more time to come up with something special to justify the brooding behavior.”
Others aren’t as forgiving as Surjic though. Unoffical leader of “Legion of the Deep” and adventurer with several different somber backstory elements, Auralg Grustteg, expects more from his members. “It’s just poor writing,” laments Grustteg. “You can’t build intrigue to a big reveal, if you don’t know what the reveal is going to be. How can foreshadow something you don’t know?” Local Bard, Fasmit Lionds hasn’t been enjoying the backstory either. “You can’t just go around telling people you have a dark secret, it has to affect your actions. Show, don’t tell,” Lionds continued “Take your time and come up with something interesting first, and then let it inform the rest of the character's actions.”
Crowraven, themself, refuses to acknowledge the rumors of an undecided backstory, only indicating that “In time, all will be revealed. But until then, this is my burden to bear.”
