Local Adventurers Kill Monsters, Suddenly Feel Stronger
"We just finished killing some Kobolds, and as soon as the last one died, I felt like I could survive an additional short sword attack."
The road to greatness and power is one with such a shallow slope, it is often hard to tell if any progress has been made at all. That is what makes local adventuring party, The Steel Champions, sudden additional stamina and skill such a mystery. “We just finished killing some Kobolds, and as soon as the last one died, I felt like I could survive an additional short sword attack. Like, I could maybe even take a couple of dagger stabs” says human Paladin Tours Lightcleft. “Even though this is a weird phenomenon, suddenly being heartier, and I welcome the benefits” says the group’s wizard, Armere Lampdowser, “I still feel like everyone else got more than me. Doesn’t really seem fair to be honest.”
It was not just party’s endurance that increased, though. Each party member’s attacking prowess seemed improved as well. “It’s the strangest thing, an hour ago I could only swing my sword once every six seconds. But after spending an entire battle stuck in a net, I can swing it twice. Looking back, I’m not even sure what was preventing me from doing it before.” says the group’s fighter, Armm the Strong. “I guess it just goes to show that you can still improve at an activity, even if you in no way participate in said activity.”
Sorcerer of the group and avid owl enthusiast, Bordul, now suddenly understands mystical arcane secrets of the universe, hidden from most mortals, after firing a crossbow at some enemies who were fleeing and begging for forgiveness. “For me, a couple of spells just popped into my head. They seemed like the most useful ones available as well. At first, I wondered how they got there, but I guess that’s just how magic works.”
Noted Cleric of Eldath (The Goddess of Peace), Uriwal, tells The Dungeon Tribune that after the slaughter of a group of Goblins, who were discovered just sitting down for a family meal, he felt closer to his deity. “I watched the life leave their body, and then I could Turn Undead twice as often. Praise be to Eldath and may she grant me peace.”
The exception within the group seems to be self-proclaimed “neutral evil rogue” Gradiff Loeyter, who reports not noticing any change after the battle. “I’m not going to name names, but a certain bard was knocked unconscious during the fight, and now she can calm domesticated animals slightly better. What’s up with that?” The only information Loeyter can surmise is that the effects are due to the combat itself. “I think I didn’t get any better because I decided not to attack. I was too busy stealing treasure.”
