Town Guard Happy to Answer All of Your Questions
"I guess when adventurers keep asking you questions instead of going to the experts, you have to learn it.”
Istrum Gentemy, local guard and militia member for the town of Crestrove, has long been the first person adventurers go to with their questions. Whether it be directions to the inn, political rumors, or lore of the surrounding region, Gentemy answers them all with ease. Long-time adventurer, Lepier Juegas, tells The Dungeon Tribune that there is no one better to begin an inquiry. “A big part of the reason he’s my go-to is because he’s always available,” says Juegas. “I mean always. It’s like he works every shift and doesn’t take a day off. And he is always nearby. It’s very convenient.” But availability isn’t Gentemy’s only asset when it comes to assisting adventurers. “He knows everything! He’s a font of knowledge,” says fellow guard Strugh Orgetto. “They don’t teach you anything about geography, or history, or magic in guard training, but he knows all of it. I guess when adventurers keep asking you questions instead of going to the experts, you have to learn it.”
Despite being handy to adventurers, not everyone is as happy with the knowledgeable guard. “I used to be able to make living with information. At the very least I could make adventurers run errands for me. Instead, he’s just answering questions of free,” says local sage Erudo Dorstur. “What good is a wiseman if there’s a guard that knows everything.” Retired mercenary Griffrul Wualt remembers the old days being better because they were harder. “It makes things too easy for the adventurers. Back in the day, if we wanted to find information about a monster or a magical item, we had to put in the elbow grease,” says Wualt. “Adventurers these days just don’t know what real investigation is. Where’s the fun in getting all the answers so easy?” There is even a small percentage of the population who sense something more incredible about the guard’s abilities. “There’s no way that a town guard can know that much,” explains a source that wishes to remain anonymous. “He’s omniscient and you can only explain that with the supernatural. Personally, I wonder if he’s a god and knows so much because he created it all
