Uh Oh! Is This Campaign Heading Toward Time Travel?
“I’ve seen an NPC a few times that looks like my character, but with an eyepatch and white beard"
Local D&D group, Siblings of Chaos, are starting to suspect that their mid-level campaign might be heading toward time travel. Interviews with members of the group indicate that suspicions that their dungeon master, Ann Halfbright, was forcing them into the genre began early on. It started when their characters found a weird hour glass in the Tomb of Kings Forgotten. “In retrospect, we probably should have cast Identify,” says group member Keith Smith. “But for some reason we never do, and it ends up lost in the pages and pages of group loot.”
Mere weeks later, additional clues came in the form of subtle changes to the group’s notes. “I didn’t think much of it as first,” says group secretary Ian McOnish. “I was inclined to believe I misremembered, because the notes were in my handwriting. I’m not sure how Ann was able to pull that off.”
Some members are trying to look on the bright side of the possible campaign direction. “You know, if it is time travel, I’d want to go back and give the earlier version of my character some magic items I don’t need,” says the group’s snack provider, Pat Leofet. “For example, I have a bunch right now that I’m not even sure I how I got.”
Other members are dreading the worse. “I’ve seen an NPC a few times that looks like my character, but with an eyepatch and white beard,” says Sam Ingells. “If it is my future character, I can’t let her help me, or else I’ll be railroaded into helping my past character in the future.”
Despite the looming threat of time travel, Ingells is still trying to make the best of the situation. “I can’t do much about the past, but I can put some gold in the Imperial Bank in case we go into the future,” Ingells tells The Dungeon Tribune. “It shouldn’t be too hard, considering I already have a lot deposited that I don’t remember ever having.”
One member in particular, fears the worst. “I don’t have the heart to tell the others yet,” says Kelsy Inklot. “But I saw Ann making new character sheets for us. And it included Thac0s.”
